André Francisco Pilon deposited Restoring the Broken Bonds: Mankind’s Survival and the Planet Earth in the group
Environmental Humanities on Humanities Commons 2 years, 11 months ago Today’s world is characterized by the increase of environmental degradation due to the predatory exploitation of natural assets, deforestation, desertification and geopolitical hegemonies related to oil and gas, while climate calamities, object of repeated scientific events, become evident and are continuously witnessed by ordinary people. The hegemony of technological and technocratic solutions in all realms of life obscures the need for a holistic, integrative and transformative ecosystem approach encompassing all dimensions of being in the world. To restore the broken bonds between environment, governance, politics, economics, culture and ethics, Earth’s regeneration and mankind’s regeneration must be tackled simultaneously, in space and time, for their mutual support, as sides of the same coin. A set of values, norms, policies should prioritize socio-ecological objectives, aesthetic, ethical and cultural values as the fulcrum of public policies, advocacy, communication, research and teaching programs.
