Written in the form of a letter to Ursula Franklin, this essay sutures her theorizations of technology to citational practices. Thinking with Franklin’s desire to alter the ways we imagine technology—metaphorically and physically—and our relationships in this creation process, this letter extends citational practices as in need of a similar transformation in imagination. Introducing citation as a structure, practice, lexicon of our cultures, the hope for this essay is to evoke citation as a liberatory means of practicing tenderness and care for one another, even though, similar to technology, it has temporally been a prescriptive, boxed off, and gatekept practice.
