English abstract: The Spanish Second Republic did not last from 1931 to 1936, but from 1931 to 1939, although the civil war period (1936-1939) has a different character and should perhaps be called the Third Republic. It is normal therefore for a history of the Civil War to begin with a history of the Republic. We comment here on Antony Beevor’s perspective, as a reference historian, in his book ‘The Spanish Civil War’. Beevor’s leftist perspective does not prevent him from pointing out some problems and political abuses of this mythified period. It does prevent him, though, from perceiving their full dimension.
