English abstract: We behave in society in ways that will promote our self-esteem, choosing the adequate strategies to this end. This line of reasoning had been suggested by Mark Twain in his sarcastic essay ‘What Is Man?’. But nowadays Twain’s sarcasms are shown to have scientific support coming from evolutionary psychology. It is in this light that we comment a paper by Luis Gómez-Jacinto.
