This article reviews four crucial moments of the editorial life of Guaman Poma de Ayala’s “Nueva corónica y buen gobierno” [New Chronicle and Good Government], a 1189-page history of Peru before, during, and after the Spanish conquest. The chronicle includes 399 ink drawings made by the author. The essay also addresses unanswered questions related to the author’s identity and the work in itself and its current impact in Peruvian graphic artists as well as Peruvian politics (2021 Presidential elections).
