To understand Trump’s appeal, one has to first understand what kinds of general problems Trump might appear to be solving. Trump’s alternatives to commonplace workplace problems are welcome to some, anathema to others. Trump has gained his fame as a successful real estate mogul, so it is not so far-fetched to view him first and foremost as a boss, and thus through the lens of how Americans experience the workplace as a form of private government (Anderson 2017; Macaulay 1986).
