This is the abstract of a paper that I presented at the Post-Medieval Archaeology Congress, held in Bristol 23-25 March 2018. It was part of the ‘Industry’ session which included an eclectic range of papers looking at specific industries across continents, and also the cultural heritage management of industrial archaeological sites. My presentation explored a current work-in-progress intended for publication following more detailed archival research and fieldwork planned for 2018.
