This is the abstract of a paper that I gave at the Neolithic Studies Group annual meeting, held on 6 November 2017 at the British Museum. The meeting title was “Extracting more than rock? Insights into the acquisition of stone and flint in the Neolithic.” The organisers (Anne Teather, Pete Topping, and Jon Baczkowski) invited papers on the physical and social aspects of stone and flint extraction in the Neolithic of northwestern Europe, to explore new findings on extraction sites and their products.
