Please spread the word (or apply yourself!) This opportunity helps scholars who are studying women or underrepresented groups in crime fiction purchase books to support their research. Here are the details:

Sisters in Crime will award researchers a grant of up to $500 for the purchase of books to support research projects that contribute to our understanding of the role of women or underrepresented groups in the crime fiction genre. This may include but is not limited to research on women mystery writers, on the position of women writers in the crime fiction marketplace, or on gender, race, or ethnicity as an aspect of crime fiction.

Grant recipients must provide copies of receipts of purchases and provide a summary of research progress that will be shared publicly and non-exclusively through the organization’s website. Grant proposals must be received by July 1, 2017. The recipient will be notified by August 1, 2017. Books must be purchased and itemized receipts by December 15, 2017, along with a progress report (250-500 words) on the research project.

Limitations:
–While projects may include analysis of film, the emphasis should be on written fiction.
–These grants are intended to support non-fiction critique and analysis rather than research for fiction projects.
–In keeping with the requirements of our funding source, grant recipients must either be US citizens/legal residents of the United States or must be conducting research on US authors.
–Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received an academic research grant from Sisters in Crime.
