The article comments upon the existing Polish translation of the novels of Donald Barthelme – The King and Snow White – from the point of view of Venutian theory of translation.

The paper was presented during The 1st International Conference in Translation Studies – Translatingthe Untranslatable in Gdańsk (24-26.03.1999). Its expanded and corrected, Polish language version was published as “Egzotyzować defamiliaryzację?
